On Saturday June 28th the women from the Common Threads group held their 3rd quilt exhibition at “A Bowl of Good” restaurant. The first two exhibitions were held at Park View Mennonite Church, consequently this is their first exhibit that is fully open to the public. Many people came to celebrate these gifted women’s stories and skills.
Udelia, one of the artists and a native of Mexico said:
It’s very exciting to see this many people here who enjoy our work. It’s hard to believe that we did all of this ourselves. I’m very proud of us!
Another artist, Sylvia, a native of Argentina, said:
Long ago we were holding conversations about potentially creating a quilting group, asking around who was interested in joining, and today we’re showing our work to all these people. It’s very moving.
Finally, Norys from El Salvador said:
Initially I was really nervous. I would think to myself ‘who would be interested in my work?’ but clearly there are many people interested! I’ve learned a lot about myself while working on my quilts, and I’m very happy that it is now being displayed and it may serve as inspiration to others.
We invite everyone to visit this wonderful display that will be up until September 13th at 1047 Port Republic Rd at “A Bowl of Good” restaurant.
