The Power of Community

Relationships. When we talk about the successes we’ve had and struggles we’ve overcome this year, it’s all boiled down to relationships. For 20 years, the staff of NewBridges has offered kind support and truthful guidance to immigrant communities in the Shenandoah Valley. The events of 2020 didn’t change that, but rather exacerbated the needs our clients expressed.

The process is often organic in nature – one person is aware of a need, another of a source to meet that need – NewBridges helps connect the dots. One example is our work with Patchwork Pantry to provide masks to immigrants and refugees - as well as other community members who frequent the pantry - by connecting the masks created by the sewing circle at Park View Mennonite Church with Patchwork Pantry.

Established programs such as our Immigration Legal Program and Health Navigation Program continue to represent and support our clients. In April, we launched the NewBridges Community Care Relief Fund and were humbled by the outpouring of support from private donors, churches (Trinity Presbyterian in particular), The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, and others.

This year has been difficult, but with your assistance we continue to support our community in ways both old and new. Your gift to NewBridges helps sustain our organization so that we can be responsive to meeting both established needs of our clients and moments of crisis.

We are fortunate to live and work in a community that so clearly values our immigrant friends and neighbors. Unfortunately, we foresee that the near future will be a challenge for us. That is why we are challenging all of our NewBridges friends, supporters and community to a fundraising match.

Recognition for a job well done

On September 25th, Ricardo Mazariegos, NewBridges’ Case Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, was recognized by Senator Tim Kaine for his extraordinary work during the pandemic.

Please join us in congratulating Ricardo for his hard work and dedication to our clients and our community!

Double the impact of your donation

Thanks to the amazing generosity of a few private donors, donations to NewBridges Immigrant Resource Center will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $15,000, as part of our 2020 Challenge Campaign.

This means a gift from you right now will have twice the impact on our important work in Harrisonburg and the Shenandoah Valley.

December 15 is the deadline to have your gift count towards this match.

So please, donate to our 2020 Challenge Campaign today and have your special one-time donation matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $15,000.

A Unique Opportunity to Give When it Really Matters

Right now, a record number of families in the Shenandoah Valley are facing extreme uncertainty due to frequent changes to U.S. immigration policies and processes. The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on our world and our community is a compounding factor that affects many of these same individuals’ ability to access the assistance they need.

For 20 years, we at NewBridges Immigrant Resource Center have helped hundreds of individuals and their families each year right here in Harrisonburg and the Shenandoah Valley through a variety of services including immigration representation and guidance, assistance with navigating medical billing, document translations, referrals for health care, housing, transportation, social services.
