Tell us a little bit about yourself \u2013 where did you grow up, what were your interests, what did you study in undergrad? Did you play a sport or do volunteering?<\/strong>
I am originally from the northwest suburbs of Chicago, IL. Growing up, I had the opportunity to participate in various sports \u2013 I played soccer, basketball (poorly), and ran middle distance sprints in track & field. I was a huge fan of any and all art activities, and particularly loved painting. I moved to Lexington, VA for my undergraduate experience at Washington and Lee University. There, I double majored in Spanish and Global Politics, with a minor in Law, Justice, & Society. Outside of the classroom, I was a member and captain of the Track & Field Team, and a Resident Advisor. I also volunteered at the local elementary and high schools through their ESOL programs where I helped student develop their English skills.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What led you to pursue a law degree? Is there a certain area of justice that you are passionate about?<\/strong>
I am passionate about social justice, which ultimately led me to pursue a law degree.\u00a0 I believe that legal education and representation are essential resources to promote community, equity and inclusion. I am particularly passionate about Immigration law and Criminal Defense\/Representation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What drew you to undertaking an internship with NewBridges IRC this summer? What do you hope to gain from you internship?<\/strong>
I was immediately drawn to NewBridges for its holistic approach to supporting clients and the Harrisonburg community. I have always desired to work at a nonprofit that zealously aids their community, which is exactly what NewBridges has done. I was also drawn in by the passion and warm sense of community the staff foster.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am hoping to learn more about the innerworkings of a nonprofit and gain a general framework for affirmative and defensive immigration work. I also am looking forward to learning more about each staff member\u2019s critical role in supporting the organization. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What kind of law do you hope to practice in the future?\u00a0<\/strong>
Great question! The legal world is big, but I am particularly interested in practicing Immigration Law.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In between all your studying and work, what do you do for fun? Any hobbies?<\/strong>
I love to run \u2013 albeit slowly at times \u2013 and bake! I also really enjoy reading, and am making my way through the classics, and the occasional thriller.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What else would you like for us to know?<\/strong>
A fun fact about myself, I am a synesthete! In addition, I am incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to work at NewBridges. The staff are welcoming and committed and I\u2019m looking forward to spending the summer at NewBridges and exploring Harrisonburg!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
